San Francisco Mintmark Styles
from
1909 to 2008
A lot more research has been done on the San Francisco mintmark styles than for the other mints. So I am including here as much of that research as I can without getting into the details of each series. The MMS numbers listed in the chart below are from the Lincoln Cent series. The MMS numbers are unique to a given series because not every series has all the styles or covers all the dates. So, when you leave the Lincoln Cent series, the MMS numbers will no longer match.

1942-1945-S Gigantic mintmark is unique to the wartime nickel series. This style was used to distinguish the silver/manganese alloy change.
1945-S micro mintmark is unique to the dime series. This style was intended for Philippine coinage.Red = Ex. Rare, Blue = Rare, Pink = Scarce
