This is the only known omitted mintmark for which there is no corresponding business strike.  Remember that Philadelphia began putting the P mintmark on all coins except the cent in 1980.  Thus all the 1983 circulation strike dimes bear either a P or D mintmark.  Photos courtesy of Heritage Auctions.
