1974-S ODV-008 Peg Legs

Description: Missing serifs on the lower Left leg of the R of LIBERTY.

Comments: The jury is still out on whether these are the result of over-abraded dies or are modifications to a working hub. I hold to the latter for the following reasons.

There is little to no basining around the back of the head to indicate abrading has taken place.
All of the Left legs end straight across and are identical in length, which would most likely not be the case if they had been abraded.
The 1971 San Francisco issues have a matching Peg Leg in both low and high relief.
All of the 1972 San Francisco issues are Peg Leg, both low and high relief.
It appears the mint was experimenting with the Peg Leg design in late 71 and early 72 and made a change over in 72 for the San Francisco strikes.
